Data Modeling is a fully Gold Open Access journal. All articles are made freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication. There are no subscription barriers, and all readers worldwide can access, read, download, and share published content.
All manuscripts undergo the same rigorous editorial and peer-review process regardless of the selected open access license.
Author Choice of License
Authors publishing in Data Modeling may choose from the following Creative Commons licenses, depending on their preferences, institutional policies, or funder requirements:
1. CC BY 4.0 (Creative Commons Attribution License)
This license permits:
- Sharing, copying, and redistribution in any medium or format
- Adaptation, remixing, and transformation of the work
- Commercial and non-commercial reuse
Provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and source.

2. CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 (Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives License)
This license permits:

Restrictions:
- No modification, adaptation, or derivative works
- No commercial reuse without explicit permission

- The selected license is final and cannot be changed after publication.

Data Modeling operates under an Article Processing Charge (APC) model to support editorial handling, peer review, production, and long-term digital preservation.
- No submission fees are charged.
- An Article Processing Charge (APC) is required upon acceptance of the manuscript for publication.

The Article Processing Charge (APC) varies depending on the selected license:
- CC BY 4.0 license: USD $350
- CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license: USD $250
The higher APC for CC BY reflects the broader reuse rights, including commercial reuse and derivative works.
Authors select their preferred license after acceptance of the manuscript.
Editorial decisions are based solely on scientific merit and are independent of the license selected or APC payment.
The APC may be paid by the author, their institution, or research funder. Detailed information regarding payment procedures is provided after acceptance.
Waiver and Discount Policy
To promote equitable access to publication, Data Modeling offers:
- Full or partial APC waivers
- Discounts for authors with limited funding
Waiver requests must be submitted at the time of manuscript submission or shortly thereafter.
Editorial decisions are made independently of an author’s ability to pay. Information regarding APC payment or waiver requests is not disclosed to editors or reviewers.
Green Open Access (Self-Archiving)
Authors are permitted to deposit:
- The accepted manuscript (post-peer review version)
- The final published version
In institutional repositories, personal websites, or public repositories without embargo.
Authors are encouraged to link to the final published version on the journal website.
Reuse and Permissions
Reuse of published content is governed by the selected Creative Commons license.
For articles published under CC BY-NC-ND:
- Commercial use or adaptation requires prior written permission from the publisher.
Transparency and Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions are based solely on scientific merit, originality, and relevance.
- APC payment or license selection does not influence peer review or editorial decisions.
- The peer-review process remains independent, objective, and confidential.
Archiving and Long-Term Access
All articles are:
- Assigned a DOI via CrossRef
- Published in HTML and PDF formats
- Made permanently accessible online
The journal ensures long-term preservation of digital content through recognized archiving practices.
Archiving and Digital Preservation
Microbial Bioactives ensures long-term digital preservation of its published content through recognized archiving systems.
The journal deposits all published articles with the National Library of Australia (NLA) to ensure permanent accessibility and preservation.
In addition, the journal supports distributed digital preservation through recognized archiving mechanisms and ensures that all content remains accessible even in the event of journal discontinuation.
All articles are assigned DOIs via CrossRef and are accessible in multiple formats (HTML and PDF), ensuring long-term usability and discoverability.
The journal also participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) to ensure distributed and independent long-term archiving.
